Antigua Guatelama

Antigua was the capital of Guatemala for several hundred years until it was largely destroyed by an earthquake and abandoned. Now a thriving town, there are nevertheless many reminders of the earthquake in the form of ruined churches. Even large parts of the Cathedral remains a ruin. Comparatively safe, compared to Guatemala City, despite the presence nearby of active volcanoes, the town has become popular as a place to commute from into Guatemala City. The workers in picture six are working in a jade factory.
